Identify your fridge or freezer
Choose fridge for a standalone chilled-storage appliance, freezer for a standalone upright or chest unit, and fridge freezer for a conventional combined unit. American-style units have a separate guide for their size, access and water or ice features.

Does a running fridge or freezer mean it is cooling properly?
No: a light, motor sound or illuminated display does not prove that storage temperature is correct. Loss of cooling, excess frost and unusually continuous running can need different checks. Which compartments are affected and when the change began help establish the fault without assuming a particular component has failed.
What should you do when cooling is lost?
Keep fridge and freezer doors closed as much as possible while you establish what has happened. Note when cooling changed and any temperature readings already available. Food safety depends on the actual storage conditions, not whether a repair is booked. Follow official advice suited to the incident; power-cut timings should not be applied automatically to a faulty appliance.
Further guidance: official food-safety advice for a power cut. For appliance faults, seek advice suited to the actual temperatures and storage history.
Request a refrigeration repair assessment
Prepare the model, temperatures if already known, alarms and access information. Do not open the cooling system or move a heavy integrated unit. Confirm support, availability and assessment terms before planning around a repair visit.
Common questions
Which page covers a combined fridge freezer?
Use Fridge Freezer Repairs, or American Fridge Freezer Repairs for that design. Keep both compartments in one request rather than treating them as separate appliances.
What if only one compartment is warm?
Include readings already available for both compartments and when they were taken. This is more useful than saying one side “seems fine”.
Does an urgent enquiry guarantee an appointment today?
No. Wait for explicit confirmation of an appointment time. If the provider cannot meet your needs, you can ask about the next available option.
